The next few days we will be on the river, covering a distance of 80 miles in total. The highlight will be an up close and personal look at the Franklin Bluffs, not far from the Arctic Ocean, where we will make camp for the night. We will take time for some exceptional hiking here before we leave the river and drive back to Happy Valley.

The Ivishak River Expedition is Freedom Trips’ classic rafting adventure. Our pilots will fly us into the middle of the Brooks Range, where the river is surrounded by majestic mountains and steep cliffs – this is where our trip begins. For four days we will float through this valley and enjoy the alpine scenery before we enter the foothills and eventually the arctic tundra, to outstretched land where one can see the wilderness escarpment for dozens of miles. Ultimately, the Ivishak flows into the Sag River near the Dalton Highway, this is where we will be picked up and taken back to Happy Valley Camp.

The Hulahula River is a lot more technical float, so be prepared for some exciting whitewater! Our bush plane flight will traverse the beautiful Brooks Range. We land in some of the highest mountains in the entire Brooks Range at the headwaters of the Hulahula, where we will put in. We raft along a scenic valley with plenty of opportunities for afternoon hiking before we enter the foothills and the open tundra of the Alaskan Arctic. Our float will continue until we nearly reach the ocean, where the river spreads out extensively and icebergs may come into view. Here, our pilot will pick us up and take us back to Happy Valley Camp.
